Zhong Xu obtained this ring after inheriting his family's Flame Force Arts as a symbol of the clan's acknowledgment. Whenever notions of quitting or retiring surfaces in him, cracks appear in the object. Because the ring makes his private emotions conspicuous to others, he rarely shows it to anybody.

Once Chief General of the kingdom of Zhao in Longzhou, now a wanderer. No matter when or where, he cares for naught but his own personal goals.
Name: Zhong Xu
Nickname: Enduring Flame
Gender: Male
Height: 6'0
Birthday: February 2
Birthplace: Zhao Empire - Yangjing
Element: Fire
Affiliation: The Independent (Longzhou)
Fighting Style: Blazing Red Flames
The first time I saw Zhong Xu, he was sitting in a wheelchair with three cats in his arms! Three! Even though he was just sitting there in the corner, his whole body radiated a powerful aura. Yeah, that's right, that fierce look of his was like, "Don't mess with me!" However, after talking with him, I discovered that even though he seems unapproachable at first glance, he's actually a very gentle person—cold on the outside, warm on the inside. After all, people who love animals tend to be nice, so he's definitely a good person!
It's a bit sad to say this, but if Zhong Xu could stand up and walk, perhaps people would pay him more mind. I heard that he was once a general of the Zhao empire... it's easy to imagine how majestic he must've been on a battlefield. But even though he is confined to a wheelchair, his flames are very deadly. It would be unwise to make Zhong Xu angry.

I was born into the Zhong family in Yangjing, Longzhou's capital. As the eldest son, I shouldered great responsibility and expectations. I was blessed for the first half of my life, and I spent my days studying and practicing martial arts—those golden years passed in the blink of an eye. When I was 13 years old, I mastered the Flame Force Arts passed down through my family and became a famous prodigy in Yangjing. When I turned 21, I wandered from military camp to military camp alone, performed remarkable exploits on the battlefield, and soon became the youngest general of the Zhao Empire.
Afterwards, the Emperor assigned me to a task of great importance and sent me on an expedition around the empire. I fought on the front lines to bring glory to the empire and led my troops across the land to pacify tumult. There wasn't a soul in Longzhou who didn't know my name! Looking back, I was so young and full of life back then...
It was at that time that I was ordered to lead the army west to the kingdom of Ji to quell a pirate rebellion in the sea. On the way there, I saved the plundered Lin family caravan and became acquainted with the Lin Guildmaster. We have known each other for over ten years now.
The Lin Guildmaster was still young back then. It wasn't long after he took over the family business that the caravan encountered bandits on the road. They suffered heavy casualties, and were robbed clean. I ordered my soldiers to lay in ambush, waiting to catch the bandits at the port with their stolen goods. I then returned the goods to the Lin family. The Lin Guildmaster was very grateful to me and said that he had heard of me before. I cared not for things like reputation and fame. As a general of the empire, it was my duty to help all victims of injustice. But fated as it were, the Lin Guildmaster shared the same aspirations as me, and we ended up becoming good friends.
Before returning to Yangjing, he gave me three Dragon Li cats, whom I love very much. Since that day, these three cats and I have never been apart. I named them Yixin (Heart), Yimeng (Dream), and Yinuo (Promise). I take refuge in their namesakes.
I secured many victories, continuing to rise through the military ranks, and was awarded the title of "Grand General" by the Emperor. This title is one of the highest honors a military officer can receive. Perhaps you cannot imagine what it is like to be admired by so many people. I've experienced it firsthand; it is as ephemeral as the reflection of the moon in water, a dream.
At that time, I thought that I could simply continue fighting on the battlefield with my flame arts, eradicating Eclipsites and quelling chaos. But being the best in anything is isolating, and beckons unwanted attention. I held so much power in the military that it attracted other people's envy. Rumors about me began to spread all over the empire. The Emperor was repeatedly advised to strip me of my position, and received exaggerated statements or sheer fabrications that accused me of all sorts of things. There was nothing I could say to defend myself. Was I ready to leave the arena in the shadow of such unjust disgrace? No! I was not ready to submit!
Coincidentally, at that time, the Lin Guild was paying tribute to the court, and the Guildmaster came to the capital with a caravan. Along the way, he heard the slander about me that was circulating around. It was thanks to his help that I survived that period.
The Lin Guildmaster spent a fortune and learned that there were people from the imperial court that were trying to frame me. He found me that very night to explain the matter to me. That was when I decided that it was time to set aside my ambitions and desires to achieve.
The next day, I went to the court to resign, explaining that I was tired after fighting on the battlefield for so many years and wished to give up my estate and position as an official. Everyone was happy, and then I came to the realization that matters of the court were no longer worthy of my attention. I decided to go to Ji with the Lin Guildmaster. When I left Yangjing, all I brought with me were my three cats.
From then on, I often accompanied the Lin Guildmaster on business trips, traveling with the caravan to various places. One day, the guild ran into trouble when our ship and The Compass, was seized by a rival guild. For the sake of the Lin Guildmaster, I dove into a boat when the caravan went to sea to take back The Compass. However, the ship was wrecked upon the rocks, and I was washed to shore in Twin Pavilions Bay. That is how I ended up here in this wheelchair, recounting the story of my life to you.
What's your plan for today, my young friend?
I recently produced a new batch of porcelain wares.
I've been thinking about my youth lately.
In my travels throughout Longzhou, I've made a number of friends... Though that number is still quite small.
I've been feeling quite reinvigorated lately.
I can feel a great power coursing through my veins.
The flames in my hands burn brighter than ever before.
The light of dawn begins to shine.
Good morning, my young friend.
This is the time of day when the sun shines brightest.
Good afternoon, my young friend.
Afternoon already? My, how time flies...
The day is still young, but the sky has been obscured by dark clouds...
It's very late, young friend.
Have you gone to bed yet, young friend?
The kittens are always so much more playful at night.
Zhong Xu invites you to visit Twin Pavilions Bay, and you prepare to go with great enthusiasm...
No matter how much I experience, I will always love the land I came from.
Astra has so many sights I have yet to see. It is truly a magical place.
Even if we must travel thousands of miles, we shall defend the mountains and rivers of Longzhou!
Where there is light, there is also darkness.
Although the Lin Guildmaster looks poised now, he suffered a lot when he was young due to carelessness.
Liqing the kitty-cat? It's fun to mess with him. Perhaps I shouldn't really say that about my doctor...
The porcelain produced in Longzhou is exquisite. It's one of my favorite things.
Maybe it's because of my experience at sea, but the sight of fish brings back unpleasant memories.
It is... an awe-inspiring entity.
Don't worry about me. I like it here.
It is an honor to have gained your trust, my friend.
Where there's life, there's hope. Never give up.
Victory is at hand.
Ready to go.
The New Year has come. I wish you well.
I have waited long.
I seem to have recovered some power.
Excellent! Excellent indeed!
Courage, just like so!
During these years of traveling, I've wandered the world for a long time, so I can't help but miss my hometown...
Behold... the radiance of fire!
Alchemy Stars.
I've gone to sea with the Lin Guildmaster several times. It's very beautiful out there on the waves. You can just put your thoughts to one side and enjoy the sights with all your heart.
These three cats have been with me for many years. They're a part of me—we're inseparable.
If you like, young friend, I would be happy to tell you more about the history, customs, and traditions of Longzhou.
Any adversity in life is a worthwhile journey with friends like you in tow.
In the first half of my life, I was unstoppable and heroic, while in the second half, I drifted like duckweed. But what of it? No one can decide where I must remain, and no one can unsettle my mind.
Alright, alright! Renown is nothing but dust in the wind—I'm not old, and I can still command the red flame in my hand to expunge all evil!
You're in the prime of life, young friend. It reminds me of the past... How about we go for a stroll and talk?
I've benefited greatly from meeting you, young friend—seeing the vastness of the world, beyond the patch of sky that lies above Longzhou.
When I was young, I was just like you. I hope you can keep marching forward into the future and chase the stars.
When the wind blows, it always reminds me of autumn in my hometown.
You can play with my cats whenever you want. They're called Yixin, Yimeng, and Yinuo. Don't worry, they know you're my friend and won't hurt you.
My wheelchair seems to be making strange noises recently. Maybe it's my imagination? To be honest, I can't get used to it.
When you are perplexed about something, just close your eyes and meditate for a moment.
Bathing in the morning light soothes one's mind.
Learning to relax after a day's work is also a good way to improve efficiency.
When all is silent, you can clear your mind.
I used to be Zhong Xu, Grand General of the Zhao Empire in Longzhou, but now I'm just a solitary wanderer. Let's not talk about the past. From now on, I'll accompany you.
I'm feeling in top form.
I used to fight on the front lines to bring glory to the nation, leading my troops all across the continent to pacify tumult. Looking back, I was so young and full of life...
On the way to Ji, I saved the plundered Lin family caravan and became acquainted with the Lin Guildmaster. We've now known each other for over ten years.
When I left Yangjing, I didn't take many belongings with me, only these three little Dragon Li cats. As long as I carry thoughts of my nation in my heart, I will not covet contentment anywhere else in the world, no matter how large it is.
I will live up to your expectations.
Converter (B)
A+
+Has a very high conversion ceiling in niche scenarios
+Baseline select-tile conversion is still quite rare in Fire
-Terrible conversion in any stage with CC-immune enemies
-Heavily dependent on otherwise suboptimal support units
-No other utility to compensate for poor conversion output
Zhong Xu’s performance ranges from lackluster to impressive almost entirely based on whether or not enemies can be pushed. This would be good in a game where enemies were susceptible to CC… but Alchemy Stars is no such game. As with Brock and Charon, Zhong Xu is greatly limited by the fact that most challenging content has all manner of CC and status immunity stapled on for no reason. At his worst, he’s almost worse than Tiny One - a literal three star. Still, he’s quite amusing in the situations where he shines, and he’s capable of a few setups that no-one else can do. If TourDog stops giving random CC immunity to every boss they design, his stock will drastically rise.
