Usually a staff, it becomes a long whip when Matthieu infuses it with Lumina. Flames swim wildly all over it, releasing a brilliant light that warns offenders not to approach. Those who are bold enough to try will taste the pain of remorse.
Common Gift. Best effect when given to Lumopolis Aurorians. Thin, delicate sheet of silver as light as feather. A favorite in Lumopolis.
Common Gift. Best effect when given to noble Aurorians. Compact, light, exquisitely sculpted silver bell believed by sophisticated folks to be a good luck charm.
Valuable Gift. Best effect when given to Lumopolis Aurorians. Lumamber packaged in gold. The primary gem of high-society Lumopolis.
Valuable Gift. Best effect when given to noble Aurorians. Rare ore that shines in different colors under different intensity of light. A present among nobles.
An extremely talented judge of the Lumo Hall of Justice who doesn't have much ambition and only wants to live a happy and wealthy ordinary life.

Everyone has a good impression of Matthieu. He's always carefully dressed and smells fragrant. But some say they find him quiet and socially anxious. Huh? You say he's completely different from what everyone says? But he does often avoid people. For example, he'll walk into the Cafe and see everyone sitting there chatting—and turn and walk out. Initially, everyone thought he was shy because he was new. So they started making a point of inviting him along. He was always grateful and sometimes said he'd come. Yet he never turned up. And if he did put in an appearance, he never stayed long. So people started to think he had social anxiety. Wait, what? He didn't want to come because there were commoners there!? But even Carleen wouldn't talk like that! And even the term "commoner" is problematic. We are all Aurorians, aren't we?
—Vice.
My families are luxury clothiers. Yes, sure, most nobles don't need to work. But my grandfather made his fortune making clothes for aristocrats, and he was such a great craftsman he was named the exclusive supplier to the royal household. He was given a title and our family became nobles. We might have been newcomers, but our riches meant all the more-established families were queuing up to form marriages with us. I mean my parents, obviously, not me. I don't mind admitting it, though. My mother's family were nobles who had fallen on hard times, but she's still a woman of great refinement and did a lot to help the family business. It was a perfect match and a happy one. Oh, my weapon? This is a church relic! My grandfather followed the God of Light and donated a lot of money to help the church grow. And in gratitude, the church gave him this: Simon, Purger of Sins.
That's right. I am the legendary child prodigy of Dawn Academy. I was a teacher's assistant at ten and became the youngest judge ever at fifteen. Feel free to cheer and clap. Hey, why so skeptical? Go and ask Pittman and Irridon if you don't believe me! They were my classmates. Yes, of course they're four or five years older. But I kept skipping grades, and I caught up with them. That's why they called me a child prodigy. Ah, I do miss my schooldays. Everyone, teachers and pupils alike, was so good to me. I always remember the rainy days. I hate those annoying raindrops and all the icky mud. So any day it rained, one classmate would carry me home on his back while another two stood at either side carrying umbrellas and my satchel. No, of course that wasn't bullying. It was helping. Helping each other, that's all. I helped them too with their lessons and homework. They were, now I think about it, quite stupid to need help with such simple lessons.
Ah, Pittman's an interesting one. He bursts with righteousness. All I had to do was act weak or helpless, and he'd rush over to help. But he was older and cleverer than those morons I'd met in the younger grades. He soon realized what I was doing and that ended my fun. Anyway, I had to stop those games in order to become the teacher's assistant. Study must come first, after all. And I was good at it. That's why the school recommended me to the Hall of Justice. I was the youngest judge ever to be taken on. The Hall of Justice only offered me the work after careful consideration and extensive investigations. There was no favoritism or nepotism or anything like that. It was all my own work. I can understand your jealousy, but... well, what can I do?
As a gift to mark my appointment as a judge, my father gave me the relic presented to our family by the church. Simon, Purger of Sins. As for my work... well, there's nothing that challenges me. The only annoying thing is that partner of mine... I really don't understand why Irridon put me with Loewe. He's just so gloomy and scruffy. I was distraught when I saw him. I'd have simply refused if it hadn't been Irridon herself who put us together. Loewe is entirely unlikeable. He's worse than Pittman, even! He has no sympathy at all for his superiors. He just sits there quietly fuming, and then when he does speak, it's a non-stop torrent of merciless criticism. I've started to feel my working days aren't complete until we've had a blazing argument. I really must think of a way to get a new partner.
I heard you have a date tomorrow?
Ahem, my schedule is open tomorrow.
Excuse me, can you tell me what kind of gift I should prepare for a gathering with commoners?
Something's off.
Still in bed?
If anyone come to see me, tell them I'm not in today.
It's raining. What a terrible day.
I see a tissue box in the Lounge.
Still up?
Here I am, a fresh-smelling genius!
You and Matthieu attend a gathering held by the ex-convicts. Unfortunately, Matthieu's tactless words irritate everyone present and drag you into a sticky situation...
The nobles embody justice, Lumopolis dominates the world.
What? Other factions exist in this world besides the nobles?
White Night up high!
A thousand baths could not cleanse the stink of an Eclipsite.
I would not say that Irridon is a good friend, but she's one of the few people worthy of my respect.
Pittman is enthusiastic, has a strong sense of justice, and is of great use to me.
Even the most ordinary objects become more attractive when decorated with green gems.
Ugh, filthy. Disinfect this thing!
This is a wonderful place. In order to keep it that way, I hereby forbid commoners to enter.
The Colossus is awesome. It would be better if only nobles lived in it.
You just want to look at me all the time, huh? Tch, if you must. Go on, feast your eyes on my noble visage.
Impossible...
I'm used to victory.
The light has descended.
Surprisingly, the New Year celebrations make even you seem better-looking.
You may cheer.
Gems sparkle.
Yet more beautiful.
I am the light!
We meet again, I'm overjoyed. ...What? Was my smile too fake?
I am strong.
Alchemy Stars.
What in the world are you wearing? Forget it, I can't expect too much of you. Taste is a combination of nature and nurture, and it's clear you have neither.
I didn't pass my work on to Pittman out of laziness. It's because I can't abide those tiresome tasks. My time is better spent on study and reflection.
Of course I don't dislike commoners. Heheh... but I can't like everyone, can I? Liking everyone is the same as liking nobody.
Not even a royal would gain my approval if they were incompetent. I only like those with genuine ability. As long as they're not a commoner, naturally.
I love beautiful things. Everyone says beauty is less important than talent, but I'm lucky enough to have both.
I honestly believe that achieving success through hard work is the most glorious thing. How unfortunate it is that I can be successful even without hard work.
Bizarrely, I find myself thinking you have good taste. I must be coming down with something that's affecting my intelligence.
You've got too much work and you can't finish? Here, I'll show you what to do. Look deep inside yourself and ask: who can I dump this work on?
Who told you I wore girls' clothes as a kid? D-Don't you dare bring that up again! You really want to know? It was all because my mother... you know what I mean...
I can't say for sure if money can buy happiness. But I do have money and I am happy.
The road to success is a tough one, requiring step-by-step progress—for you, I mean. I'm taking a carriage.
Hey, I'm talking to you. You should feel honored. Reply, right now.
It's so hot! We nobles must never smell sweaty. I'm going to bathe.
Savoring the fragrance of early morning dewdrops is good for the mind. Not that you'd understand.
A true treasure would sparkle even in the dark. No wonder I can't see you at night.
How dare you be unable to sleep at the same time as me? I hate the idea of us having anything in common!
I am Matthieu, the youngest judge in history. I have the finest taste and bottomless talent. Worship me if you wish, but do not expect we will become friends.
Behold my family's glory.
My family designs luxury clothing. Clothes make the man, they say, and the more ordinary a man, the more that is true. You're an example.
That's right, I was the Dawn Academy's legendary child prodigy. I became a teacher's assistant at ten and became the youngest judge ever at fifteen. Feel free to cheer and clap.
Work, well, there's nothing there that challenges me. The only annoying thing is that partner of mine...
I'm needed again?
Preemptive Converter (A)
Shield Support (A)
S+
+Preemptive Conversion is Vital
+Powerful, free shield that works with Istvan
+Pushes Lilica’s damage into the stratosphere
-One of the few 4 tile converters that doesn’t generate Enhanced Tiles
-Shield strength requires timing and certain enemy counts; shield value is largely tied to Lilica, a 6-Star.
Matthieu is a strong welfare unit with unique team building implications for Lilica teams. His shield strength seems middling at first glance, but the fact it scales with enemy count and can be doubled by Istvan’s chain doubling allows it to reach fairly impressive numbers. In Lilica teams, this means a tremendous amount of DEF-ignoring burst damage – even before counting his value as a Converter. It’s likely that he will be the gold standard for non-whale Conversion moving forwards.
Note: All the 4-tile preemptive converters should be viewed as SS-tier for the purposes of 95% of the game. the SS-tier converters are all out of reach unless you whale or are patient and the 4-tile preemptive converters are all capable of handling all content together up to 80+ spire.
