After that mysterious ritual, Kayano could always see the ghost attached to this band. Unable to drive it away, she eventually accepted it and took advantage of the benefits it brought, allowing it to boost her power.

A tall woman from Cloud Island who was once saved by Rinne. She claims to be able to see "things" and is afraid of strangers.
Nickname: Miss Gloom
Birthday: January 31
Affiliation: The Independent
Fighting Style: Phantom Manipulation
I've heard many rumors of hauntings from Ms. Kayano's hometown, such as an 8-foot tall unidentified woman and a ghostly figure that attacks people in alleys. At the time, I thought some kind of Eclipsite was behind such a myth, and I was on edge for a long time.
But, when I actually met Ms. Kayano, it dawned on me that those rumors were about her. Although she behaved and spoke in a strange fashion that even shocked %s when they first met, she's actually gentle and friendly and enjoys playing with children.
However, Ms. Kayano is a little shy, and getting to know her is a careful and gradual process. Any overt actions to befriend her is likely to scare Ms. Kayano off...
I've been able to see those things since I was little. They sometimes looked like mist, other times like bodies of light... They moved around seemingly without purpose and I was never able to get rid of them.
I used to tell my parents I could see strange things, but they didn't believe me at all. Then one day, I was surrounded by a few kids of my age who were taunting me with horrible words. Outnumbered, I didn't dare fight back, and I was so scared that I ended up curling into a ball on the ground, crying and begging my parents to save me.
While I was panicking, those things suddenly went berserk and knocked them down to the ground. I ran home in terror, but it wasn't long before the parents of those children came knocking at our door, demanding my parents compensate them for the state of their children. They called me a monster and said that my parents were no different.
I guess from then on, there was no place for me in that home...
After those things went on a rampage, my parents couldn't stand the rumors and sent me off to a Koufu-jou painter skilled in martial arts, presumably in hopes that he could teach me how to suppress those things, but in reality, to be rid of a weird child like me.
But this teacher was despicable through and through. Instead of learning any skills, I was ordered to do all sorts of menial work, only to get a few scraps of food and an old straw mat that served as a bed in the attic in return.
Life was hard in such a harsh environment, and I was left with little choice but to observe my teacher's craft in secret while tending to my chores. I kept any brushes and papers he discarded and would sneak out to paint for next to nothing. But he eventually discovered my secret, furiously beat me half to death, and kicked me out of the house.
Since then, I became homeless on Cloud Island...
I've personally experienced a reincarnation ritual.
The rich in Koufu-jou couldn't care less about the life and death of a servant, so even though I was abused by that painter and fell ill, I never received medical treatment. In the end, my condition worsened to the point that one day, on my way to get the painter his paints, I passed out on the street.
When I woke up, I found myself lying in a cemetery. The guards who found me had thought that I was dead and had sent me to the priestess to be purified. As the priestess danced and recited incantations, countless enchantments like threads of light seemed to connect my forehead to those on the other bodies around me. All at once, the corpses were transformed. Enveloped in a dark substance that became like armor and weapons, the bodies turned into monsters—ghosts.
Later, it was the priestess who discovered and rescued me. It was also she who helped me escape the ghosts and who introduced me to Momo and Anzu's restaurant. Without Lady Priestess, I'm afraid... I wouldn't be here today.
Indeed, I don't have many friends.
I'm sure everyone can attest to that. Even on Soroz, there aren't many who are willing to talk to someone as gloomy as me... Not to mention I'm still harboring those things that could go berserk and hurt someone if I'm not careful. I can understand their concerns, Navigator, and you don't have to force yourself to talk to me.
But, I guess you're not going to listen to me either way...
Since I was kicked out of my parents' home and ended up in Koufu-jou, I had come to believe that there was no place for me in the world anymore. But, here, I've gotten back what I had lost. I'm really glad you care about me... I don't know how I'll ever repay you...
Those things told me the Navigator is a good person.
I really enjoy life on the Colossus...
I... I have a favor to ask.
Those things have become more obedient...
Good morning, Navigator!
The midday sun is very hot.
It's night already...
A lot of kids come to me to play hide-and-seek.
The white Colossus floats in the night sky.
Good evening, Navigator...
Eve... Evening... Navigator...
Kayano has been sneaking around lately as if she's hiding something...
Koufu-jou city, reaching high to the sky and in command of demons and spirits for years, still can't escape fate... Heheheh...
Are all members of the Rediesel Wrench this outgoing and unrestrained? How terrifying!
I have no place to stay back home.
These terrifying things are everywhere. I don't want to fight them...
Momo and Anzu have been looking after me.
Lady Rinne is a real noble, and I'm a mere nobody. I dare not play up to her...
If I can stay by myself, those things won't be able to hurt others.
Koufu-jou presents a false appearance of peace and prosperity in its parties and nightlife. Ridiculous and pathetic... Heheh...
There are many rooms in the Colossus... Some places must be quieter than others.
Thank you for visiting me. This made my day.
Work here? Only if not many people would come here...
Sorry... I wasn't strong enough...
I made it...
Those things... Are getting out of control!
Another year has passed so quickly...
Should I go?
I don't want to fight... Boo-hoo...
What are you looking forward to?
Navigator is not here? I guess I could slack off a little.
The grudge has intensified.
Err... Alchemy Stars?
Please don't look at me like that. You are making me nervous...
I would have been dead long ago if not for Her Holiness. I'm very grateful.
The roaming grudge in the earthly world... The lonely spirits around me... Heheh... Wait. That was not me...
I see those things as ethereal mist, but no one believes me.
Sometimes you might hear strange things from me that I never meant to. Those things need me to say it for them. Please believe me.
I think about my future from time to time. I guess I'd love to stay here.
It's very different from where I came from. Relaxing. I would love it even more if there were fewer people...
May I draw you a picture if you don't mind? I learned a little in the past. I'll do my best.
This is magical... You are my very first friend, other than the kids. Those things and I are not as powerful as others here but I'll do everything for you.
The dark circles under your eyes look worse than they used to. You need to rest...
The Navigator is setting out? I'll go to the lounge then... Huh? Do I have to go?
Those things... Please don't take them down. It's for the rite... Please don't. It really hurts...
Hi, I'm Kayano. Please don't be afraid. I'll try my best to control those things. Hopefully we won't disturb you.
Hard to control... Woo!
My childhood... It was full of boring and trivial things, not worth hearing.
That's all about my past. Please don't dislike me.
Many people have saved my life, including you. Please allow me to stay...
Woo...I'm really not good at socializing.
Captain Swapping (A)
+Is the core of the captain-swap gimmick team
+Attack buff is nice, if not necessarily the best around.
-The captain swap gimmick team is not a real thing
-Everything else about her kit is pretty sad
Kayano is the linchpin of Alchemy Star's most mechanically-confused series of characters.
Her abilities revolve around captain-swapping mid-match to gain bonuses and buffs. As interesting as it is, there's several problems with this strategy.
1.) The buffs are often negligible, and other similar units that are good are good in spite of the mechanic.
2.) Only a few units that care about this mechanic, and they're spread over multiple Elements
3.) The mechanic itself is clunky to play with and forces you to take suboptimal turns in order to get any value out of it.
In theory, Kayano is supposed to make other units based on Captain swapping moreo viable, but thanks to all of the above, she's more of a meme than an actual unit.
